# The Quarterly Review

A sample document for MDSyntax. It uses every part of GitHub-flavoured
Markdown that the app renders, so one file is enough to check the preview.

## Emphasis and links

Plain text, *italic*, **bold**, ***both***, ~~struck through~~, `inline code`,
and a [link to the support page](https://mdsyntax.com/support).

> A blockquote, for the sentence someone else said first.

## Alert callouts

> [!NOTE]
> Rendered as a callout rather than a plain quote, matching GitHub.

> [!TIP]
> Five kinds are supported: NOTE, TIP, IMPORTANT, WARNING and CAUTION.

> [!WARNING]
> Each one carries its own colour and label.

## A table

| Region | Revenue | Change | Owner |
| --- | ---: | ---: | :--- |
| North America | $482,100 | +12.4% | Dana |
| Europe | $311,650 | +3.1% | Marcus |
| Asia-Pacific | $208,900 | −1.8% | Priya |
| **Total** | **$1,002,650** | **+6.2%** | — |

Column alignment above is set per column: default, right, right, left.

## Task list

- [x] Close the books
- [x] Reconcile the two currency accounts
- [ ] Draft the board summary
- [ ] Circulate for comment

## Nested lists

1. Prepare
   1. Pull the raw figures
   2. Check them against the ledger
2. Review
   - With finance
   - With the regional leads
3. Publish

## Code, fenced and highlighted

```python
def variance(actual, budget):
    """Return the signed variance as a fraction of budget."""
    if budget == 0:
        return None
    return (actual - budget) / budget
```

```sql
select region, sum(amount) as revenue
from   sales
where  closed_at >= date '2026-04-01'
group  by region
order  by revenue desc;
```

## Footnotes

The figures above are unaudited[^1] and exclude intercompany transfers[^2].

[^1]: Audit begins the second week of the following quarter.
[^2]: Netted out in the consolidated statement instead.

## A horizontal rule, and a long paragraph

---

Longer prose, included so the reading pane can be judged on the thing it is
actually for: line length, line height and the space between paragraphs over
more than a couple of sentences. A viewer that looks good on a three-line
snippet can still be tiring across a full chapter, and the measure is
deliberately capped rather than running the full width of the window — the
same reason books are not printed on billboards.

Images render inline as well:
